Coach Winn

Hello, my name is Jill Winn and I am honored and humbled to be a teacher at Union Grove ISD. I earned my bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Mathematics at University of Texas at Tyler. This is my fourth year at the Grove and my third year coaching. I am married with two daughters, Kyra a grad student at UT Tyler and Gracie a junior here at the Grove. I enjoy the outdoors. I love sports and enjoy competitions! Which explains why I am a Coach.

I've decided to become a teacher because I have the passion to change the lives of young people. I wanted to give back as I was a poor kid with unfortunate circumstances and was inspired by teachers and coaches that made me believe I could be and do anything I determined. Those teachers and coaches confirmed my developing decision that education was the area of endeavor where I was meant to be. I love the challenge of engaging young minds and watching the light bulb come on when a new idea or procedure "clicks" for them.

As a teacher, I want to change student students' lives, to give them skills to serve them in the future, to get them to think about their place in the world and what kind of person they want to be, and to be able to say at the end of the year that they have indeed learned worthwhile skills for the future. Education is a life-long learning process. Therefore, students need to be able to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to the complex and diverse questions of their daily life. With that being said, I will strive to create a meaningful classroom environment for ALL students.
